Africa is calling again… 4 February 2012, we flew back to Johannesburg and on to Zimbabwe (Zim) for two weeks volunteering with a team from Community United Methodist (CUMC) out of Crofton, MD. On 20 February we flew to Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC or Congo–Kinshasa) to live and volunteer for two and a half months in Kananga, in the central part of the Congo.
and Sue from New Hampshire.
It is now 27 February, we have some catching up to do. In Zim, each day was filled with visits, travels, meetings and ceremonies. By night time we were either too tired and still processing the day’s events, and/or there was no electricity and no Internet access.
The purpose of the Zimbabwe part of the trip was to participate in the dedication of a two classroom school block CUMC helped build last year and to visit potential sites for a volunteer trip in early 2013. At the end of the project visits the CUMC team decided to build a two classroom school block for the secondary school at the UMC Mission at Mashambanhaka. We also visited several of the UMC Baltimore Washington Conference “Hope Fund” projects completed in recent years. We’ll post more about the Zim trip as we get started on our blog. We have posted some pictures from our two weeks in Zimbabwe at
